Battle of the Books

The Battle of the Books program seeks to encourage reading by all students at the middle school level. Students, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints by prominent authors in the area of young adult literature. The game format creates interest and excitement in reading. Through the fun and excitement of the competition, students improve reading skills, mature in their choices of reading materials, and acquire a broader knowledge base.

Teams that win the Wake County Battle of the Books go on to compete in regional and state competitions. The Battle of the Books is sponsored by the Academically Gifted Program, Media Services and Magnet and Middle School departments.

The Battle Group will meet every Tuesday afternoon in the Media Center .  In January, the students will test to determine the 12 student representatives that will compete in the county competition.  We are unable to have every student who participates compete.  But, we encourage everyone to come out and support and cheer on the team during the competition.  The competition is scheduled for March 6, 2010 at Green Hope High School .

Battle Books are located in the Daniels Media Center , but also can be found in the Wake County Public Libraries.
