Middle School Science Club Sponsor:
Dean Oey Science
Club is open to all sixth grade students. The club provides an avenue
through which members may explore facets of science beyond the classroom. It
seeks to encourage participation in science related activities and to instill
values that reflect appreciation and understanding of science as it relates to
life. The goal of our club is to develop leadership, responsibility, and
scientific awareness. Our objectives will be accomplished through the
interaction of the club members, club sponsor, other middle school students, and
the community. All members work as a team to accomplish all of our goals
and objectives. Currently, students
will be exposed to various scientific disciplines in genetics, physics,
ecology, herpetology, and energy technology.
A bank of experiments will be performed in my lab and out in the field.
Students will also have opportunities to discover disciplines of their
choice.
We
meet the first and last Wednesdays of each month starting in January.
We will start promptly at 2:15
p.m. in Room # 1213 (Regular pick-up time
will be at 3:30 outside back door of Bates building, next to new basketball court). Our
pick-up times for field-trips to the Natural Science Museum and Blue Jay
Point will be 5:30 p.m. at same location behind Bates Bldg. next to basketball
court. Please do not go to
field-trip locations, unless you’ve made special arrangements. All
students will be brought back to Daniels for pick-up.
All members of the Science Club are expected to attend ALL regularly
scheduled meetings. There is a one time 5.00 dollar fee for lab materials
and field-trip expenses. Members
cannot have more than 3 unexcused absences from meetings. Excused absences
include tutorials, absences from school, athletic practice or games (a
signed note from parent or a call must be given to Mr. Oey before missed
meeting). If you have any
questions or concerns I can be reached at (919) 274-1653.
Members must maintain C average grades in EVERY class to remain active. Any member, who fails to do this, will be put on probation. Members
may be removed from the club by the sponsor, Mr. Oey for interfering with the
positive direction of the club or for unacceptable conduct at any meeting or
