Good Afternoon, this is Steve Mares, principal of Daniels Middle School with my weekly announcements. A copy of this announcement will be posted on our website.

Monday, September 1st is Labor Day and a school Holiday for both students and staff. There is no school on Monday, September 1st.

Tuesday, September 2nd, Girls Volleyball and Girls Soccer Tryouts begin. Tryouts for Volleyball will be held for three days and will run from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Please have your rides here at 4:30 p.m. Soccer tryouts will also be held for three afternoons from 2:30 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. Please have your rides here at 4:15 p.m.

Wednesday, September 3rd, the National Junior Honor Society will have their first meeting at 2:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria. Please have your rides here to pick you up at 3:00 p.m. If you are going to be absent, please email Mrs. Kempf or Mrs. Hassell to let them know as attendance is mandatory.

Information is coming home today with each student regarding our PTA Fall Fundraiser. Please take time to look through these materials and participate in this opportunity. Please know how much our staff appreciates your efforts to raise funds for our PTA, our school, and our students!

Parents, please remember to complete the School Directory information sheet that was mailed home this summer. If you want your child’s information in the School Directory, you must complete this form and return it to the school. Please return the completed goldenrod-colored form to school by Friday, September 5th. Thanks for your support of this project.

Some of our Sixth Grade students are bringing home a letter and flyer today regarding the Tdap vaccination requirement. Please remember that all Sixth Grade students are expected to present proof of immunization on or before September 23rd. Thank you for your support of this new policy.

Please remember that Daniels will begin utilizing the Student/Parent Access Network (SPAN) for the 2008 – 2009 school year beginning with the Second Trimester. SPAN allows students and parents access to data such as grades, demographics, attendance, schedules, and teacher recommendations from your home computer. Parents will need internet access and an active email account in order to establish a SPAN account. Parents, if you are returning SPAN registration forms, please remember that they must be notarized. You can avoid notarization by turning in the SPAN form in the Main Office during school hours and showing a valid drivers’ license as proof of address. SPAN forms can be found on our website and are available in the Main Office. SPAN forms will also be available at our Open House. Please know that additional information will be provided as we move further into the implementation of this program.

Please note that the Daniels Open House is fast approaching! Our Open House is scheduled for Thursday, September 11th, from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there!

Finally, I would just like to thank all of our students and parents for an outstanding start to the school year! We appreciate the support you provide, and please know how thankful we are that you allow us to serve your children!
