November 16 - 20, 2009

Good Afternoon, this is Elizabeth Battle, principal of Daniels Middle School with announcements for the upcoming week.

Parents, we would like to remind you that this year Daniels is implementing trimester cumulative exams as part of the Professional Learning Team process. Teachers working together within their like subject PLT will develop a common cumulative trimester exam. The trimester exams will be given within the normal class time and will count no more than 15% of the student’s trimester grade.  The exam dates are: November 16: English/ Social Studies, November 17: Math/ Science, and November 19: Electives. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding trimester exams.

On Monday, November 16th there will be a short informational meeting for any student interested in joining the Mathcounts Team. Mathcounts is national competition program that promotes advanced and "out of the box" mathematical thinking to middle school students. It is tied closely with the National Society of Professional Engineers to help promote students to enter an engineering field when they grow up. Rides should be here by 3:00 pm

The Veterans Day Drive is being extended for one additional week in hopes of getting more donations for our troops serving overseas.  Please remember that Community Service hours are being given for donations - one hour per five items.

Please remember to go to www.progressCHER.com and take an 'Energy Challenge' survey.

The Clothing Drive to benefit Goodwill of NC will begin on Monday, November 16. Please bring gently used clothing to Ms. Andrews by Friday December 11. These items will count as community service.

Yearbooks are now on sale until December18th for $29.  From January 4th through February 26th the cost increases to $32.  And from March 1st through April 12th books will be $35.  Please order early.  Extra order forms are located in the media center, or the main office.  We ask that all yearbook payments be made in either check or money order to the Daniels PTA.  Your cancelled check is your proof of purchase.  Please do not send cash!

For those of you who ordered sportswear, the shipment will hopefully be arriving next week.

Eighth grade students don’t forget to bring in a baby picture of yourself for the yearbook.  Please have your first and last name and your homeroom teacher’s name printed on the back.

That is all the announcements for this week – I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
