Weekly Phone Message

announcements are from the weekly phone message sent out on Fridays)
November 9-13, 2009
Good Afternoon, this is
Elizabeth Battle, principal of Daniels Middle School with announcements for the
upcoming week.
Parents,
we are beginning the process of de-magnetizing, as Daniels will no longer be an
IB school in two years. We will meet Thursday, November 12, in the media center
at 7pm to discuss the future of Daniels middle school. Please e-mail me at ebattle@wcpss.net
if you plan to attend. We would like your input.
Parents,
we would like to remind you that this year Daniels is implementing trimester
cumulative exams as part of the Professional Learning Team process. Teachers
working together within their like subject PLT will develop a common cumulative
trimester exam. The trimester exams will be given within the normal class time
and will count no more than 15% of the student’s trimester grade.
The exam dates are: November 16: English/ Social Studies, November 17:
Math/ Science, and November 19: Electives. Please contact me if you have any
questions or concerns regarding trimester exams.
Monday,
November 9th is
the deadline for all Reflections Contest entries.
Entries should be taken to the media center Monday morning.
Tuesday,
November 10th the
first tournament of the Daniels chess club will conclude with games between the
undefeated Lucas Willey and Malik Ebert. Any student who would like to
participate is welcome when the chess club announces a tournament. If we
get enough interest amongst good players, we might just challenge Martin's chess
club to a match.
Also
on Tuesday, there will be a Boys Basketball Skills Camp from 2:30 to 4:00 for 8th
grade boys only and a Soccer Skills Camp for both 7th and 8th
grade boys. All participants should
have proper game attire for the camps. Please
contact Mr. Adams, the Athletic Director, with any questions.
The
Daniels Pep
band will be meeting after school until 3:30 pm, and there will be a Softball Clinic for
any seventh or eighth grade girl until 4:30 on Tuesday.
All girls should bring their tennis Shoes and Gloves. You will need
to bring a completed Participation form if you do not have one on file.
The
Beta Club will also be meeting on Tuesday until 3:00 pm.
Poster committee members should bring paper and supplies.
At
6:30 pm the Fall Sports Athletic Banquet will be held at 6:30 pm in the
cafeteria. Please contact Mr. Adams,
our Athletic Director, for additional information.
Please
remember that Wednesday, November 11th is the Veteran’s Day
On
Thursday, November 12th The
Daniels Jazz band will be meeting after school until 3:30 pm.
Friday,
November 13th is
the day that the Fundraiser winners will take the limo ride to The Mellow
Mushroom for lunch.
The
Veterans Day Drive to benefit our troops overseas is still going on with
community service hours being given for donations - one hour per five items.
Cards to send to the troops are a wonderful idea also.

reminder that any student wanting to participate in any sport, an Athletic
Participation form must be on file here at the school.
